Maria Menounos Receives Key to City of Medford, MA

The Medford-raised actress, journalist and TV presenter Maria Menounos was in town Tuesday filming an “Access Hollywood” episode on the city she grew up in.

Menounos stopped by Mayor Michael McGlynn’s office Aug. 5 for a brief visit and left with a Key to the City.

“It’s funny, too, because apparently her producer had asked her yesterday if she thought she’d get the Key to the City,” said McGlynn. “Meanwhile, I was running around last night saying, ‘We’ve got to get her a Key to the City.’ Her producer was hopping up and down saying, ‘I told ya so!’”

McGlynn said he gave Menounos the key to recognize all the charity work she has done for diabetes and AIDS.

Before she left, McGlynn said Menounos accepted his offer to be the mistress of ceremonies this winter when Medford tries to break its own Guinness Book world record for the most people caroling “Jingle Bells” simultaneously.

Pick Up A Beautiful Woman

(Stuff magazine, Jan. 2007)

Maria Menounos

Access Hollywood's gorgeous correspondent, gives two easy ways to steal a girl's heart.

1) Pickup Lines, Never, Ever, Ever Work

"I've heard a million because I worked at Dunkin' Donuts. I got them all! When I'd be making someone's coffee, I'd be like, 'How do you like it?' They'd say, 'You can just put your finger in it. That's sugar enough.' Or 'Are your feet tired? 'Cause you've been running through my mind all day.' Ugh! I heard a million of them."

2) Talk About Something Random She Loves (Even If You Don't Give A Crap About it)

"Talk to me about dogs! That's the greatest way to get in with somebody. Girls want to talk about something they love. It's disarming. If you know someone loves dogs, go for the dog angle. It totally works!"

Catfight: Maria VS. Jessica Simpson

Maria appears in Jessica Simpson’s music video “A Public Affair“.

"I ended up pulling her extensions out, and she pulls my extensions out," Jessica Simpson laughed

Greek Goddess

(Men's Fitness Magazine, Dec/Jan 2006) by Nate Millado

You played a "sexy nurse" in the Fantastic 4. How was that?

It was pretty unbelievable. It was my first feature, and I couldn't have picked a better icebreaker. I took 40 of my family members to see it at a local theater. It's pretty insane to see yourself up on the big screen and knowing that people are paying to watch.

You're also in the new video game From Russia With Love.
What's it like being a virtual Bond girl?

It was super fun doing the voice, but also really different. You're there, and you have to imagine the scene because you're not physically playing it out. It's a lot of over-the-top yelling and screaming. But at least you don't have to deal with hair and makeup.

What has been the high point of your journalism career? Ever get starstruck?

I was 24 when I interviewed President Bush - that was a pretty exciting accomplishment. Madonna was a moment for me, because I've loved her music for so long. But with Johnny Depp... I was like,"Do I tell him I have a crush on him, or do I just hold it in?" Of course, I'm sitting there, and he puts his hand on my knee, so I tell him, "You're amazing, I think you're a great actor, and I've had a crush on you all my life. Ok, let's start the interview!"

We hear you're a big Red Sox fan.

I am! Anything Boston: Patriots, Bruins, Celtics, Red Sox. I've lived there most of my life. But I'm more of a contact-sport fan, like hockey and football. When football season ends, I get depressed.

A sexy nurse who can break down a nickel defense? You're like the perfect girl.

[Laughs] Yeah, I just got a new house, and it has tennis courts. Now I'm making plans to have basketball courts within it, I'm getting hockey nets, and I have all my guy friends ready to go. We'll have tournaments every week!

Maria Menounos Spotlight

(Inside TV Magazine, November 21-27, 2005)

As a special correspondent on Access Hollywood and the Today show, Maria Menounos rubs shoulders with some of the biggest names in entertainment. When she's not in front of the camera, Maria works for Take Action Hollwood!, a charity she co-founded in 2001 that enlists stars to help raise awareness of social issues.

Q: With your success as reporter, will film work take a back seat?

A: Right now, I have two films in post-production - In the Land of Merry Misfits, which I produced and Longtime Listener (starring Wilmer Valderrama), which I directed.

Q: What's your Take Action Hollywood! charity working on now?

A: We're planning a national campaign designed to curb pet overpopulation. You can bet that every celeb friend of mine who has a dog or cat will be called into action.

MEGA MARIA Q&A

(Fashion 18 Magazine, Summer 2005)

Red Carpet Reporter Dishes About Her Job by Laurel Rhind

Fashion 18: How did you get your start?

Maria: A job came up at a news show, and a guy who worked there knew me and thought I would be interested. I sent in a demo tape, got the job and moved to L.A. I was there for about a year and a half, then I sent my tape to ET. They were looking for new correspondents. That's the short answer. It was a long road until then.

F18: What's a typical day like for you?

Maria: When I'm just doing ET, my day starts at 5 a.m. But my days don't end. It's interviews in between everything and photoshoots squished into a two hour gap in my schedule.

F18: What's your favourite question to ask a celebrity?

Maria: I don't know if I have a favourite. You get bored of asking, "What are you wearing?" That question gets asked of everybody!

F18: Who was your fist celebrity interview? Was it nerve-racking?

Maria: Jennifer L. Hewitt and Carmen Electra were my firsts. I interviewed them and thought. Wow, they're so cool and nice. I was a litter nervous. It was really exciting.

F18: Who was your funniest interview?

Maria: Definitely Jim Carrey. He's a hoot. He took over, and I was in stitches the whole time. At on point, he took me by the hand and started Greek dancing with me. I couldn't have had a better time.

F18: What's the best part about you job?

Maria: There are always new things going on, exciting things to do, and travel. I'm the type of personality that gets bored easily so it's really fun.

F18: Is that why you chose this career?

Maria: Absolutely. I can't be behind a desk from 9 to 5. It's just not me. My job is to be in the entertainment world, doing everything I've always dreamed of.

F18: What advice do you have for aspiring entertainment reporters?

Maria: You have to work hard. Be willing to intern for free. I certainly didn't have it easy. It's about putting in the time and being passionate about it.

F18: what do you think about frame and perks that come with your job?

Maria: You never know fame's going to happen, but it's what you're dreaming of. I've been waiting my whole life for this. I'm seeing wonderful places, meeting great people and experiencing thins people only read about. It's really amazing.

Maria Menounos joins WB One Tree Hill Interview

'This is just such a sweet place.'

Rubbin' elbows with hunky TV actors like Chad Michael Murray is nothin' new for Maria Menounos. As one of Entertainment Tonight's most popular correspondents, this former teen beauty queen has so been there and done that. However, making out with hunky TV actors is a whole 'nother story. With her recurring role as Jules on One Tree Hill, Maria may have to be rubbing a whole lot more than elbows with hot celebrity guys and soon. "Right now, all I know is that Jules is the new girl in town and she's kind of fallen for Keith," explains Menounos. "Beyond that we all just have to wait and see." Sitting back and waiting has never been part of Menounos' M.O. Practically from the minute she hit elementary school this Medford, Mass., native has been on the go. "My biggest thing growing up was I wanted to get good at a lot of different things so that I would never have to be at anyone's mercy." Here, the self-proclaimed news junkie, gives you the full report on her latest assignment.
My character is: "A very fun loving, very live for the moment kind of girl."

So far, my favorite co-star is: "Craig [Sheffer]. Definitely! He is such a great guy. We have so much fun together. He's made me feel very comfortable and at home."
I am in love with: "Wilmington, [No. Carolina where One Tree Hill is shot]. It is very bizarre. I get off the plane and I take a deep breath and it feels like home. This is just such a sweet place. Everyone is so kind and it's so peaceful."

One of the unseen perks of joining OTH is: "All the sleep I'm getting. Right now I am doing an enormous amount of traveling. I love getting on planes because I am blessed with the fact that I can sleep on planes. It's the only time I really have to rest and not have my Blackberry rule my life."
The only thing I miss: "Are my dogs. I'm dog crazy. I have five. I volunteered at a shelter for a little too long."

All I am doing right now is packing and unpacking: "I have no idea what's in store for Jules. It is so invigorating for me to be able to do a role in an extended way. I'd done some guest spots but to be able to be a part of a family like this is just a blessing. Jules doesn't have a story yet. I think you'll just have to watch the show to see where it takes us."

Newsworthy
As the host of ET on MTV and ET on VH1, the one-time contestant in the Miss USA Pageant clearly isn't just a pretty talking head. She got her start pleasing schoolboys across the nation as an adventurous and inquisitive correspondent for Channel One News. Next time there's a war, here's someone with whom the troops would love to be embedded.

Entertainment Tonight Hires Maria

The famed celebrity news show (Entertainment Tonight) convinced Menounos to join its team as a correspondent in 2002. She excelled immediately, interviewing everyone from the Osbournes to Robin Williams, and reporting on movies, music and fashion.

Menounos did so well that ET executives offered her a hosting gig for ET on MTV & VH1, a crossover program that brings the latest celeb news to the two popular networks. She remains a correspondent on ET but, to many, her most important contributions involve charities. Menounos formed Take Action Hollywood!, a foundation that raises social awareness and enlists the help of the entertainment industry.
Acted Before Everything Else

While most people recognize Menounos for her hosting and reporting duties on “Entertainment Tonight”, her passion for acting emerged long before her journalism career flourished. “A lot of people didn’t realize that I acted before I did anything else,” she says. “I was living in Boston, so there wasn’t very much I could do in the Hollywood arena. My parents were really against it. And that’s how I ended up getting into television and broadcasting, because my parents wouldn’t allow acting. So most of my acting experience came in college when I was living away from them. I acted in various independent films, and I got some commercial work and stuff like that.”
